Our Australian BlackHatter friends (g’day!) brought to our attention the latest Google Innovation to come out. We cant find any official word from Google on this or any other blogs mentioning this, but it appears Google are beta testing putting SEO meta descriptions in PPC ad copies as a 3rd description line.

Have a look at the screenshots below…

This is the organic listing for STA travel in Australia

Title tag in SEO

And this is the PPC ad that appears for the term STA Travel…

SEO Meta Description in PPC ad copyYou’ll see the highlighted sections where there is a 3rd description line in the PPC ad, which matches part of the meta description in their organic ad.

What does this mean?

1. Additional ad copy for PPC ads resulting in organic listing appearing further down the page (and Google making more money.)

2. Advertisers now need to really look at their meta descriptions take advantage of this additional line of ad copy. They also need to make it ‘salesy’ as per a PPC ad copy and less about what they are trying to rank for in the organic listings.

3. Google are changing the SERP’s again!!!! Will a week go by when this doesn’t happen!

Currently, we have no word from Google on this, but we understand that in order to get this additional line of ad copy, you have to have ‘very high quality score’ ads…whatever that means nowadays.

If anyone has any further information about this latest Google Innovation…let us know!

Haha, we updated our site design weeks ago…glad to see your keeping up with things! Keep up the blogging…we’ll give you a Google+ next time we are logged in and help you with your SEO efforts…but we want a pair of those Chanel Light Up Shoes…they look amazing! :-)

  2. Please say this is a wind-up!? They can’t seriously be thinking of adding more text to an advert. Can they?

    • BlackHatters says:

If only it was a wind up. But were afraid its true…trust us, we wouldn’t be bothered with photoshopping an ad like this. We’ve seen a few more examples of this on other keywords today, so it is a beta test that Google are trialling.
